When I lost the… “chance of my life”

“Buftea area, meaning Butimanu”
      Buftea is located at approximately 16 kilometers from the city center of Bucharest. Not our destination… Until Crevedia the distance is 10 kilometers more… not where our “super opportunity” was located… yes, but… Crevedia is the “end of civilization” of the area, as after it you do not see any serious village for several kilometers… Then we reached the famous resort of… Lucianca (do not tell me it is not… the guys told me so… I told you from before, don’t let reality to destroy a nice story). After Lucianca, between this “metropolican city” and Butimanu, we finally reached the property! It was few hundreds of meters before to enter to Butimanu. “Not so far from city center” commented the agent of the property. I thought he was joking, but he was not…

“Splendid view, direct opening to the main boulevard”…
      I stepped down the car, trying to feel healthy again. I took a deep breath of cold air and looked at my left. A forest. I looked at my right. Agricultural lands. The cold was penetrating my clothes, reaching my bones… After all the adventures, I had finally reached the property which was the big opportunity to buy. But it was located in a different area… In front of me I was watching a small hill and a land around it. “I am sorry, but are you sure that this is the right plot?” “Definitely. But look, isn’t it marvelous? You have splendid view, a direct opening to the main boulevard…” “… what boulevard? This is the national road, having a width of 7 meters and about 1.000 holes until here” “Why 1.000?” “Well, if you did not realize it, our driver entered in each and every one of them, I felt them all. Anyway… do you have a map of the property?” “I forgot it, but it is ok, I can draw it to you here”. “But how is it possible for you to come until here, without to be organized in the morning?” “Mister, why you are so tough with me?” he smiled. “But you work in a big company, as you told me, how is it possible?”
      This was the plot with 0,5 euro / sq.m. “At Buftea’s area” finally meant that it was reached following the same road that we use for Buftea. And yes, it was in the area, only… 23 kilometers after. “Any utilities in the area?” “Not so far” “Where exactly?” “I don’t know” “Then how do you know that they are not so far?” “I know” “But you don’t know where they are” “Not now, if you want the next time you will come, I will show you”. “Do I have to come again? Will you pay me for this?” “What do you mean?”. “Look, I saw this one here, is there anything else to show me on our way back?”
      “But you don’t know the best. The mayor, here in Butimanu, will create a golf course and the whole area will have tremendous growth, more than 10 times in the next 2 years“. “But does the mayor have the money for the golf?” “It is not so difficult, there are many investors who fight, so as to create a big sports center with golf included”. “I bet that this will not happen by the end of the decade” (today, 4 years after, I can prolong my bet for one more decade…). “Ok, guys, let’s go back, I don’t want to see anything else here”.
